They say that April showers bring May flowers. And while that proverb is generally true, April showers can also bring a whole mess of other things, like boredom, allergies and wet socks. Luckily, this week’s weather forecast is looking good—almost as good as this week’s forecast for events on campus. Check out Xavier Magazine Extra’s picks for the week.

Down Syndrome Awareness Spring Soccer Classic
Saturday, April 20
Xavier soccer complex, 7:30 p.m.
Organized to raise funds for the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati, the annual spring soccer classic bids the Xavier men’s soccer team against Notre Dame. Head coach Andy Fleming’s 2-year-old daughter, Devin, inspired the classic and kicks off the game as honorary captain of the team. Tickets cost $5 each, and all proceeds go toward increasing Down syndrome awareness and resources. Email bertschk@xavier.edu for tickets.

Chamber Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble
Wednesday, April 24
Gallagher Theater, 7:30 p.m.–10:00 p.m.
Jazz up the middle of your week and join the audience as Xavier’s Jazz Ensemble and Chamber Orchestra unite for an end-of-the-year concert. Each ensemble plays separate selections, and then combine forces while featuring student vocalists. Free admission.

Symphonic Winds presents “Epic Percussion

Gallagher Theater, 7:30 p.m.–9:30 p.m.
The musicians from Xavier Symphonic Winds plan to end the academic year with a performance of epic proportions. The first half of the concert features guest soloist Erica Drake on percussion performing the tour-de-force “Percussion Concerto” with the expanded ensemble.
