This Week at Xavier: Feb. 23- March 1

by xaviermagazineextra
Cintas

March is just a week away. And around this time of year in basketball country, things can get kinda crazy. Like, clowns fitting into small cars, ringmasters facing felines, balloon twisting crazy. Literally. Get in on the fun early this week as the Piccadilly Circus arrives at the Cintas Center and later as the Xavier men’s and women’s basketball teams take on their opponents. Need a relaxing Sunday afternoon? Then end your weekend with some live classical piano music. Whatever your mood, Xavier’s got something on their calendar that fits.

Activities

Piccadilly Circus
Sunday, Feb. 24, Cintas Center
In the spring of 1793, an Englishman named John Bill Ricketts set-up shop in Philadelphia, bringing the first circus performance to America. Now, 220 years later, the Piccadilly Circus gets ready to set up indoors at the Cintas Center. The performances feature ringmasters and clowns—just like the old days—and also introduce some modern entertainment into the mix, including motorcycle stunts and contemporary acrobatics. 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tickets $8-$38

Xavier Music Series Presents Thomas Tirino on the Piano
Sunday, Feb. 24, Gallagher Student Center Theatre
The New York Times said he was a ”thoughtful musician” with a “big technique.” His website credits him with performances in Eastern Europe, Asia and the United States. Thomas Tirino, piano player and conductor, now brings his big sound to Xavier for a Xavier Music Series performance. 2:30 p.m. Tickets  $3-$19

FamilyRemarkable Families Symposium
Friday, March 1, Cintas Center
Raising children with special needs is a difficult job, but it can also be very rewarding. The symposium, where Tri-state parents learn how to thrive as a family with special needs children, brings together parents and provides information, resources and networking opportunities. Activities include more than 18 one-hour workshops and a resource fair with more than 50 vendors. Register Online. $40. 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Athletics

Xavier’s campus and basketball games go together like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich: sometimes the games can be a little bit messy, but they’re mostly sweet and can leave fans hungry for another bite. So if you have the craving this week,  Xavier’s hosting three home games for your entertainment. Get your fill.
